Mechanic Assistant

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Mechanic assistant will provide support to the Lead Mechanic by working in the automotive repair shop directly helping with repair and maintenance related tasks. This role provides an excellent starting point for new mechanics to gain familiarity with repair and maintenance processes and best practices while working directly under the supervision of more experienced professionals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct routine maintenance activities that don’t require a high level of expertise.
  • Performs safety inspections on vehicles.
  • Performs oil change.
  • Changes air filters, batteries, and tires.
  • Replaces light bulbs.
  • Pick-ups and delivers parts from dealerships.
  • Fuels, greases, and lubricates trucks.
  • Washes, polishes and details vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicle records with iPad or printed copies of service records.
  • Communicates and work closely with Lead Mechanic on work status and progress.
  • Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures and standards.
  • Follows and adheres to established safety procedures and practices.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Required:

  • 1 year of minimum of experience.
  • Highschool/GED.
  • Must have basic mechanic skills
  • Bilingual – English and Spanish.
  • Valid class driver’s license and DMV printout.
  • Drug testing clearance.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow direction as well as work independently.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.
  • Ability to work positively and respond promptly to requests, needs and concerns.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain professionalism in all aspects of the role.
  • Proficient with computer, iPad, smart phone, Microsoft Office application, and other basic computer usages.
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position.
  • Strong sense of urgency with a focus on quality and safety first.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office/warehouse/road condition with exposure to different noises, dust, temperature and the like.
  • Some local travel is required.
