The University of California (UC), Merced set audacious goals for its $1.35 billion campus buildout of critically needed facilities to support a population of 10,000 students by the year 2020. The Design-Build, 3-Phase project delivered 1.2 million square feet across 14 structures and roughly doubled the physical capacity of the campus. The new facilities included 1,700 new beds in four dorms/classroom buildings, three teaching and research lab buildings, an administration building, conference center, dining facility, student wellness center, and a research greenhouse All 2020 Project buildings earned LEED Platinum certification helping UC Merced become the first public research institution in the U.S. to achieve carbon neutrality.
